Easy, flexible and low-risk: The startup labs are the ideal location for young life sciences companies looking for an easy way to get started.

Vienna’s life sciences sector is booming. According to the Vienna Life Sciences Report 2018/19, the 177 life sciences companies operating in Vienna invested 750 million euro in research and development in 2017. Between 2014 nd 2017, more than 50 companies chose Vienna as their base, but barriers to entry in the life sciences industry are still very high. Founding a company requires considerable investment in infrastructure, i.e. in laboratory space and equipment.

The Vienna Business Agency’s startup labs are now offering entrepreneurs a significant helping hand. From December 2019, more than 70 laboratory workstations equipped for research and development will be available for use by startups on the Vienna BioCenter campus. Young life sciences companies wishing to make use of the co-working spaces can apply now.

Infrastructure that grows with your company

The flexible startup labs are primarily designed to provide crucial assistance in the early stages of research and development of products and services. They can be rented for an undetermined period and grow with the company. As the startup expands, it is easy to rent further laboratory space, because rents are “per bench” instead of per square metre.
