Research in Neu Marx
The development of the former St. Marx abattoir to the business and research location Neu Marx offers space for future industries. Together with WSE Vienna office development, the Vienna Business Agency has established infrastructure for companies in the areas of media, research and technology.
Vienna is Austria’s most important life sciences location. The Vienna Biocenter shows 49 ERC grants and 11 Wittgenstein awards and is one of the top players in life sciences in Europe. Over the last 12 years, the ERC has funded 49 research programs at VBC with a total of 84 Million EUR.
At the Vienna Biocenter in Neu Marx, over 1,800 employees and 1,500 students from three universities conduct research. Around 35 enterprises and scientific institutions use the 90,000 m² of modern office and lab space. Research organizations íncluding the Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP), the Max F. Perutz Laboratories (MFPL), the Institute of Molecular Biotechnology (IMBA) and the Gregor Mendel Institute of Molecular Plant Biology (GMI) shape the location with their international reputation.
Success stories
The benefits and potential that Neu Marx creates for life sciences companies not only appear in well-known companies such as Apeiron Biologics, AFFiRiS, eBioscience (an Affymetrix company), and the publicly listed Valneva. Startups are also making a name for themselves at the Vienna Biocenter. There is a great deal of momentum for special life sciences products from the likes of haplogen or Scarletred.
