Life Sciences in Vienna

Vienna looks back on an excellent scientific tradition in the field of medical research:  The Medical University has been located in Vienna for over 640 years and is currently the largest specialised medical university in Central Europe.

With LISAvienna, the Vienna Business Agency and the Austrian Wirtschaftservice GmbH (AWS) offer an own platform to companies in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical technology, which advises companies on grounding, offers networking opportunities and acts as central knowledge support for the life science sector.

Around 480 companies are active in the life sciences industry in Vienna. These employ 23,000 highly qualified employees and reported 12.2 billion euros sales in 2017. More than 70 research institutes and other organisations employ a further 14,700 people and also educate 34,700 students. Startup Labs for Research

One of the top players in Life Sciences is the Vienna Biocenter. Over the past 10 years, 40 research programs worth 70 million Euros have been nurtured. The Biocenter has the greatest ERC support for Austria.

In the Vienna Biocenter, the Vienna Business Agency is currently developing startup labs for the Life Sciences industry. 72 flexible workplaces and 32 offices have been created for young scientists and researchers on more than 1,000 square meters. The goal is to facilitate start in economic life through a mutually used infrastructure.
